A famous dish from Mao Zedong’s hometown, this sweet and savory braised pork belly is rich, tender, and infused with caramelized sugar and soy sauce.
Ingredients:
- Pork belly: 500g (cubed)
- Sugar: 2 tbsp
- Soy sauce: 2 tbsp
- Star anise: 2
- Ginger: 3 slices
Instructions:
- Blanch pork belly in boiling water, drain, and set aside.
- Heat sugar in a pan until it caramelizes, then add pork belly and stir.
- Add soy sauce, ginger, star anise, and water to cover. Simmer for 40 minutes.
